Kicked to the Curb

I know some of you might think I'm a little nuts
but I have a confession to make. :o)

I have a fetish for old chairs that people throw away.

Call me strange but when I see a chair that has been kicked to the curb, I sometime succumb to the temptation to pick it up. I'm not sure what the attraction is but recently I couldn't resist—I found this green chair on the curb and fell in love with it. It was so heavy that I had to call a friend to help me load it up. (And evidentially it sat on someone porch for a while.....shew weeee.) I wish you could have seen my husband’s face when I pull the old tattered chair out of the back of my van. He didn't quite share the same vision I had for that chair.
After a little cleaning up, I hope you'll agree, it was worth the trouble. It was such a unique element to photograph. And, I couldn’t have picked a better subject to share the spotlight with my chair. This little girl was just precious!

During the session I found out she was also a dancer. For fun, we decided to spin like ballerinas. After adding artwork (music notes, etc.) to this image, we decided that this image is a must for our studio displays. The print hasn't been completed yet but I'm looking forward to displaying it in my studio.

This little cutie had no problem putting on a little "sass" after we changed out of her princess clothes. :o)

My Favorite Finley!!

She's finally here! Avery recently brought home her new baby sister.

I have always called Avery "my favorite little Avery.” (She's the only Avery I know...but even if she weren't, she would hold a special place in my heart.) So, when her mom brought Finley in to see me for the first time, she jokingly wondered if Finley would be “my favorite little Finley" too.

We learned a VALUABLE LESSON with this session. In similar fashion, Finley's parents brought her in for her first portrait session on the way home from the hospital after birth, as they did with Avery. Although this is wonderful because you get the babies at their newest, we learned that there is such a thing as "too soon.” We didn't realize it until after the fact, but when Avery was released from the hospital, she was two days old. Finley was released a day earlier (before mom's milk had come in). And, although we got great images, we had to work a little harder since Finley was obviously a little more irritable (unlike the more peaceful two day old babies that sleep through us capturing their first portraits).

All Together in One Place

I just finished reading a book called "All Together in One Place." Although the story line has nothing to do with this family, I liked the title of the book. I think it fits this family well. As you can tell from their images, they are a close-knit family.
I love this print! The image below was their choice as the main portrait in their wall collection display. It turned out stunningly. I don't think any other print would have appropriately showed how fun this family is.

Family Fun

These little girls are FULL of excitement!!
This little one just learned how to walk. She never sat still—she wanted to romp around everywhere. And, I can't blame her...there was so much to explore.
As you can tell, they were all having a blast as they made a few memories while splashing around in the water.

Third Time's the Charm

As clients for six years now, this family has come in for a session as each of their daughters turned three months old. This little cutie is their third little girl and she is just charming. She will smile at just about anything. :o)

How Cool Is That??!!

I LOVE finding new places to use in my photographs. When I came across these beautiful white doors, I knew they would be perfect for images. A very cool find!

For All You Mommies

I don't normally pass on stories that are forwarded to me via email; however, I wanted to dedicate this one to the many wonderful mommies I have had the pleasure of knowing over the years. This story is sure to make you giggle. Keep up the great work!!!!

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.

The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.

Proceeding Into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.

In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened.

He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door.

As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.

She looked at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?"

"Yes", was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."
